Union Coalition Brings Heat to Board of Trustees for Trying to Break Full Steps Promise
When we said we’re not backing down, we meant it. Our labor coalition, representing 80,000 CSU employees, pre-empted the Board of Trustees meeting on July 22 with a press conference to denounce CSU leadership for backing off their commitment to pay equity for workers who are the backbone of the institution.
And we brought allies: Assemblymembers Al Muratsuchi (District 66) and Mike Gipson (District 65) joined us to call on the CSU to not break their promise with their workforce.
Members from Teamsters, CFA, UAW, and APC brought heat to the Board and signaled there will be more to come if Chancellor Mildred García fails in the core mission she is charged with: Building a university that meets students’ needs with a dedicated workforce.

HOW WE WIN
We are fighting for full steps implementation on multiple fronts:
- Member power. Sign our petition to demand Chancellor García implement full steps now. Member action is our strongest power.
- Political pressure. We are calling upon our allies in the California Legislature to hold the CSU accountable to its promises.
- Legal challenges. We have filed PERB charges against the CSU for attempting to re-open our contract.

National Day of Action: Families First, July 26
Find your nearest Action in California
No matter our race, income, or where we come from, we all want to care for our families.
This Saturday, people across the country are rising up to say: Our families come first. Not billionaires. Not corrupt politicians. Not ICE.
CSUEU members will join with fellow SEIU members across all 50 states to take part in the Families First Day of Action – a national mobilization to defend care, safety, education, and dignity for all families.
We’re not just showing up to protest cuts – we’re coming together to expose the deeper crisis: a political and corporate machine that’s trying to divide us, silence us, and bleed public systems dry. We’re fighting back with our collective power.
